Accessibility Statement

Last updated: December 21, 2025

Think Swallow Thrive is committed to making this website usable by the widest possible audience, including patients, family caregivers, and clinicians of all abilities. Given that many visitors come to this site while managing a communication, cognitive, or swallowing disorder themselves, accessibility is central to the site's purpose, not an afterthought.

Conformance Target

This site aims to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, the widely recognized standard for web accessibility, and is built with the spirit of the Americans with Disabilities Act in mind. This is an ongoing goal rather than a one-time, certified achievement: I have not commissioned a formal third-party accessibility audit, and I am not claiming full conformance, only that accessibility is an active, continuing priority as the site grows.

Accessibility Features on This Site

  • A "skip to main content" link for keyboard and screen-reader users
  • Semantic HTML structure with proper heading levels and landmark regions
  • Visible focus indicators on all interactive elements
  • Color combinations checked for sufficient contrast
  • Descriptive alt text on meaningful images
  • A responsive layout that adapts to different screen sizes and zoom levels
  • Plain-language writing, with technical terms explained where they first appear

Known Limitations

Some content on this site has limitations I want to be upfront about. A number of the downloadable handouts on the Educational Handouts page are PDFs published by outside organizations, and I do not control their internal accessibility (for example, whether a given PDF is fully screen-reader compatible). Where possible, I link to the publisher's own page rather than hosting a copy, so you can also look there for an accessible or alternate-format version if one exists.

New content is added to this site regularly, and newly published pages may occasionally lag behind a full accessibility review. If you come across a specific barrier, I want to know about it.

Feedback

If you encounter any accessibility barrier while using this site, please contact me and describe the issue and the page where you found it. I aim to acknowledge accessibility feedback within a few business days and will work to address genuine barriers as quickly as reasonably possible.

Technical Specifications

This site is built with modern, standards-based web technology and is designed to work with current versions of major browsers and assistive technologies, including screen readers. Accessibility depends on both this site and the browser or assistive technology you are using working correctly together; if you are using an older or unsupported browser, some features may not work as expected regardless of this site's own accessibility.
